Collar & Tweed Product Size Guide

Product Size Guide
One of the questions we get asked most often is ‘Will size X fit my dog?’ , so here is the Collar & Tweed Product Size Guide!

We try to provide general guidance on which sizes tend to fit which breeds, but there is such variance in size and build, even between dogs within a breed, not to mention individual taste about product fit, that it is essential to take accurate measurements of your dog to allow us to check that the product will fit well, and to your taste. The Collar & Tweed Product Size Guide is here to the rescue!
Standard Product Sizes
As our products are all individually hand made, the sizes will vary. Also, the thickness and type of fabric does affect sizes, but broadly speaking, here are our standard product sizes:
Bow Ties
Standard Bow Tie Sizes are as follows:
- Extra Small (XS) – 3″ Wide x 2 ” Tall
- Small (S) – 4″ Wide x 2″ Tall
- Medium (M) – 4 1/2″ Wide x 2 1/2″ Tall
- Large (L) – 5″ Wide x 3″ Tall

Measuring Your Dog
Neck Measurement – Collar, Scarf and Bandana
Riley has a fluffy coat, so needs more slack in the measurement Such a good boy, sitting nicely! Willow is also quite fluffy!
The key measurement for collars, scarves and bandanas is the neck measurement and the trick is to measure around your dog’s neck, where you would like the collar or scarf to sit, and to make sure there is enough slack to allow the dog to wear it comfortably. To do this, the tape measure should sit exactly where you would like the collar to sit, i.e. not too tight or too slack, taking into account the volume of fur underneath! This can easily be accomplished by placing a couple of fingers under the tape measure to provide some slack for comfort.
Some of our items are adjustable, e.g. collars, but our poppered bandanas and collar cuffs need to be measured for an accurate fit as they are not adjustable.
Scarf Drop
For scarves and bandanas, you will need to measure the ‘drop’; the measurement from the top of the collar to the tip of the bandana or scarf. This is particularly critical for smaller dogs, e.g. dachshunds, if you don’t want it to be too long!
Riley is a larger breed, so a longer bandana or scarf would be fine. Smaller breeds need a smaller ‘drop’.
Bow Tie Size
Extra Small Medium Large
Tastes do vary so much on bow tie size! Here you can see the bow tie sizes on Riley, who is a gorgeous Golden Retriever at eight months old, nearly fully grown.
Extra Small Medium Large
We think that Willow suits a Medium/Large and some smaller breeds look awesome in a huge statement bow tie (Lady Belle of Berkeley, please take a bow…). The only combinations we don’t offer are Large Collars with Extra Small Bow Ties, as it is not possible to fit the collar through the loops on the bow tie!
We hope that the Collar & Tweed Product Size Guide is useful, and that it helps you to measure your dog to ensure you get the fit you want from our products. If you still have questions, don’t forget you can always contact me directly.
