Measuring Your Dog
We recommend using a flexible tape measure, placing it around your dogs neck and finding a fit that would be comfortable as a collar. As a guide, this usually means that you can get couple of fingers comfortably between your dog’s neck and the tape measure. When you have it ‘fitted’ where you would want the collar, make a note of the size, and add it as a note to the order.
Unlike most mass produced leather goods, this is designed to last. The full grain, vegetable tanned leather is coated with a protective layer and treated still further with C&T Leather Balm before being sen out to you.
Each collar is painstakingly hand-stitched using a proven heritage technique called “Saddle Stitching”. This is done entirely by hand, and produces an incredibly strong stitch. Unlike a “lock stitch” produced by a sewing machine, where the item may start to come apart if the thread is broken in even just one place, a saddle-stitched item is much stronger. A single break in the thread will not usually allow the item to come apart, as two complete threads in a continuous figure of eight hold the parts together.
The collar is treated with a leather balm that aids its ability to repel water. This does not make the collar “waterproof”.
We therefore recommend removing the leather collar from the dog before swimming.
If the collar does become wet, remove it from the dog, allow it to dry slowly somewhere cool and dry. Wipe or brush dry to remove dog hair or dried dirt, then with a damp cloth to remove any residual dirt. Treat with a leather balm such as C&T Leather Balm to restore a balance of moisture and oils to the leather.
Swimming or immersion in water will shorten the life of the collar.
Periodically apply C&T Leather Balm by hand to keep the leather soft, moist and supple.
